Two almost-Top Chefs and an acclaimed pastry chef square off in Daley Plaza today at 11 a.m. in the 6th Annual COUNTRY Chef Challenge (sponsored by Country Financial, hence the all-caps so you don’t forget it). The chefs will have 20 minutes to shop the Daley Plaza Farmer’s Market, then 30 minutes to prepare a dish; the dishes will be judged by Billy Dec, the Sun-Times’ Sue Ontiveros and TV personality Anna Davlantes. Besides getting to watch the chefs in action, the first 1000 people to attend will get a tote bag from Country Financial. But it’s not just about the celeb chef glitz and corporate sponsorship— there’s a serious purpose here, helping to show people how shopping farmer’s markets can lead to healthier eating. Daley Plaza is the one with the Picasso lady/baboon/whatever at Clark and Washington.
