Food GPS reports on the soon-to-open Ohana Brewing Company, a new brewery landing just south of Downtown in the coming weeks. The company bears the motto: “A fresh face in beer,” which just might refer to the green ages of the owner and brewer, 24-year-old biochemistry Andrew Luthi and Chris Walowski, respectively. Luthi is taking his passion for home-brewing to the big leagues, with plans to unveil a rye saison, inspired by the owner’s chef grandmother, followed by a Belgian strong golden ale, and some hoppy pale ales and IPAs. The brewery’s mission is to craft creative and intricate new brews., rocking a Hawaiian islands theme and distributeing its wares first to local bars and eventually, in bottles, with plans for a special “black label” series designed with help from artist and Long Beach HopHeads club founder, Glen Sawada. Check out the company on Facebook for updates.

Ohana Brewing Company, 1756 E. 23rd St. Los Angeles. 213-748-2337.
