A group of LAUSD middle school students at Silver Lake’s Thomas Starr King all but occupied their lunchroom in an effort to get the school system to ditch Styrofoam trays and containers. The kids, joined by their parents (who probably all talk like this), protested the polysterene-based products through such tactics as building a sculpture using discarded trays. It worked and now LAUSD will uphold a ban on the non-biodegradable platters, much like one already embraced in public buildings and government facilities. [CBS]
