Josie’s Opens Tonight in EV; Bar on A, Rope Shutter

• Prohibition Bakery had its grand opening yesterday on the LES, and it’s a fusion of the two things best loved by everyone — and by fusion we mean the infusion of alcohol into cupcakes. [Grub Street]

• Josie’s opens tonight at 6 in the space that used to be Joe’s Bar at 520 East Sixth Street. Joe’s closed last fall when proprietor Joe Vajda died. New owners Richard Corton and Kirk Marcoe plan to restore it as closely as possible — even replicating the old wallpaper using a company in California and repairing the old Lowenbrau clock. • Wholesome Wave’s farm-to-table restaurant week wraps up Sunday, but there’s still time to sit down to specials at 25 of the city’s farm-to-table spots (like Parish Hall, Applewood, Red Rooster, and Ted & Honey). Plus, BAM hosts Chop It Up! on Sunday — a food fight poetry slam — from 6 to 10 p.m. [Grub Street]

• New field-to-glass distillery Hillrock Estate in Ancram will launch the world’s first Solera Aged Bourbon in September. In October, they roll out their Estate Single Malt Whiskey, with a rye and another bourbon variety coming in 2013. The Hudson Valley distillery will be open for tours starting September 15. • Schmackary’s on West 45th Street wants you to stretch your summer a little longer with build-your-own ice-cream-cookie sandwiches. • East Village standby Bar on A closed Sunday. Owner Bob Scerrano died in 2010, and the bar has apparently. been for sale since last summer. Rope on Myrtle Street in Clinton Hill has also shuttered, and a new liquor license application indicates the new occupants will be Steamed Buns LLC. [Eater NY]
