A few weeks ago, we talked about the awesomely named Dinah Fried, who takes photos of meals that appeared in novels. Now the Smithsonian is taking note, spotlighting those people you never click on Match.com bloggers who cook meals inspired by literary lines like “her griddlecakes done to a goldenbrown hue and Queen Ann’s pudding of delightful creaminess.”
Paper and Salt’s Nicole Villenueve cooks the favorite dishes of authors like Raymond Chandler, Ernest Hemingway, and E.B. White, who don’t really have much in common besides a love of pigging out; Yummy-Books’s Cara Nicoletti recreates meals from iconic novels like, say, East of Eden, so she can feel closer to her favorite characters.
We’ll probably pass up a dinner invite to historian Lucy Worsley’s house, though: Her hobby is recreating meals eaten by historical figures, and she “can be found buying pounds of pheasants and gulping gallons of saltwater,” the Smithsonian reports.
