
There have been countless imitators of Bakesale Betty’s renowned fried chicken sandwich with spicy slaw, but now Bar Tartine’s new daytime sandwich counter is doing a different spin on the concept, this one inspired by Japanese tonkatsu. Serious Eats reviews this “beast of a lunch,” which pairs fried thigh meat with cabbage, red onion, garlic mayo, and spicy tonkatsu sauce made with apricot and tamarind, and says it’s “impressively juicy” and pretty sloppy to eat.
