It’s been long enough since Amy Morton had a restaurant that at first we thought it was the Steppenwolf actress opening a place. But in the 90s Amy Morton, daughter of Arnie (Morton’s) and sister of David (DMK Burger Bar, etc.), had the successful Mirador and Blue Room in Old Town. And now she’s getting back in the biz with Found. The restaurant was expected to turn up in Andersonville, but Chicago reports that it’s going to be on Chicago Avenue in Evanston (the same block as Dave’s Italian Kitchen) in October.
The name comes from repurposed furnishings and, she suggests in this interview, a newfound sense of purpose— she plans to work with Inspiration Cafe to hire graduates of their programs for teaching foodservice skills to the homeless. The precise cuisine remains a little vague beyond a strong commitment to local sourcing, but how can you not like a mission statement like “I want people to walk in and feel they are in a super-groovy Bohemian place”? To that end, Eater reports that she’s hired Nicole Pederson from C-House to head the kitchen; for more about her, read this interview at Chicagoist from a couple of years back.
