Abbot Kinney alkies are breathing a pungent sigh of relief this week, as the chic block’s only liquor store, which closed in June, is finally open again. Things are still pretty much the same inside, but the exterior has been brought up to speed with the rest of the street’s shiny new image, replacing its colorful yellow bars and Dionysian murals with a modern framework of glass.

Known by the bougies as Abbot-Kinney Spirits or Abbot’s Spirits, Lucky Stop No. 2 Liquor to a few, and just the liquor store to everybody else, the place does come back to life at just one-third of its original size and the owner shoots down rumors that the remaining space will be occupied by a sit-down cafe or flower shop. Instead, dude confirms that a leather goods store will take over, which is fine as long as the neighborhood’s shops and business maintain a steady supply of ethanol to get through the day.
