A new restaurant named Urban Garden is currently under construction on Fairfax, in a small space just south of Melrose, next to Rosewood Tavern. The project embraces a healthy Mediterranean diet with the promise of fresh, organic ingredients and a commitment to making everything from scratch. This means pita baked in-house, hummus made fresh each day and offered at a hummus bar, organic meats and grains, and slow-roasted chicken and rotisserie lamb shawarma free of meat glue, additives, or preservatives served during lunch and dinner.
Urban Garden comes from George Abou-Daoud’s Bowery Street Enterprises, which controls Hollywood venues like Delancey, Rosewood, Tamarind Deli, Mercantile, and Township, among his spread of seven businesses, mostly thriving under European and American influences.
Urban Garden, on the other hand, will unite Mediterranean, North African, and Middle Eastern favorites like stuffed grape leaves, cous cous, vanilla date shakes, feta, quinoa, bulgar, and olives, with a focus on healthy eating and sustainability in a bit of a departure for the company, whose nightlife-friendly venues consistently pack in a dinner crowd. Taking over the site of a Kosher eatery, it sounds like this one already may have a guaranteed lunchtime crowd.
