Salt Lick Firing Up a Cookbook

No trip to Austin is complete without a detour to the Salt Lick, just outside the city in Driftwood, Texas, and rivaling the ’cue meisters in Lockhart with its succulent brisket and sausage, plus German-style potato salad and (our favorite) sesame coleslaw. While it’ll be hard to re-create the sprawling restaurant compound surrounded by live oak trees, come November you’ll at least be able to get your paws on the recipes. The Salt Lick Cookbook: A Story of Land, Family, and Love sounds like the perfect gift to give Dad and then later “borrow.”
