We heard the opening announcement a few weeks back, but now allow us to remind you of a new Lower Haight pizza and sandwich place Nectar (not to be confused with this place in the Marina), in what was formerly known as Katz Bagels (663 Haight), but still owned by the same guy, Mike Katz. Katz told Haighteration that he was excited about doing something besides bagels, and that despite the fact that he’s only made a few cosmetic changes and extended the hours of the place to 10 p.m., it feels “like a brand new business.” The lush back patio, which wasn’t quite permitted when the place debuted in late June, is now open next week along with the official grand opening of Nectar and the launch of the nighttime menu, which includes flatbreads, some Mediterranean fare, and beer. The patio is very green and secluded, and well furnished, and it’s been taunting bagel-buyers for years now because no one was allowed back there.
