Three years ago, a fledgling Korean restaurant chain announced its ambition to become the “McDonald’s or Starbucks of Korean food.” Bibigo opened its Los Angeles flagship in 2010 serving a streamlined, fast-casual menu of bulgogi and rice bowls, then announced plans to open 1,499 other locations around the world. The restaurant opened its second shop in Beverly Hills this spring, and tomorrow it’ll open a third. A line of branded, pre-packaged food and rice wine has given expansion plans a boost, and today, representatives have announced that Bibigo will open its first New York location next year.
