Boston Mayor Tom Menino has vowed that gay-hatin’ Chick-fil-A won’t open in Boston if he has anything to do with it. The avuncular mayor, who is also an avowed hater of soda and obesity, says that a company with anti-gay beliefs just shouldn’t sling chicken in a progressive city. “Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,” he told the Boston Herald.

Particularly worrisome is Boston’s iconic Freedom Trail, which was rumored to be a future Chick-fil-A site. “That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail,” he vowed. Menino also plans to write a letter to the company and promises that he’ll make their license process “very difficult” unless they backpedal.

“We’re a leader when it comes to social justice and opportunities for all,” Menino said. Despite his rabid hatred of Mountain Dew, we’ve got to give the guy credit here.
