The taco desk at Grub Street Chicago is happy to extend the Mexican food love after Tuesday’s taco roundup (which can be found, bookmarked, and carefully studied here) with an event at one of downtown’s modern Mexican stars, Mercadito. Still in time to create a new paradigm for your backyard grilling this summer, is next Tuesday’s Mexican BBQ Cooking Demonstration, in association with Tequila Partida. Chef Patricio Sandoval will demonstrate some Mexican-influenced touches for your barbecuing repertoire while making you a five-course meal ranging from a grilled scallop, watermelon and key-lime habanero crudo to guajillo-arbol-rubbed skirt steak. Oh yes, there will also be tequila-based cocktails involved. The five-course meal and cocktails plus demo is just $55, and it will be in Double A, the downstairs bar at Mercadito. Call 312-329-9555 for reservations; see the menu here.
In other news at Mercadito, no longer do you have to go find pancakes or late night burritos after drinking at Mercadito— thanks to their new midnight brunch. From midnight to 2 a.m. Friday night and 3 a.m. Saturday night, they’ll whip up dishes like Huevos Con Carnitas or Tacos de Huevo a la Mexican, plus weekly specials. And who said anything about not drinking? Brunch cocktails like their Bloody Mary or Mango Mimosita will be available as well.
