Rich Table (199 Gough Street), the new restaurant from married co-chefs Evan and Sarah Rich, is ready to step into the light next week — on or around July 19 if all goes according to plan. Today we bring you the first glimpse inside the space, which has been transformed since its Paul K days with some reclaimed and raw wood, muted tones, and a more cozy urban feel.

The Riches have said that they wanted the place to have the bustling energy of a New York neighborhood spot. “We want it to be a little louder,” Evan said, “A little more boisterous [than your average S.F. restaurant], with relaxed service.”

Also, there will be a cocktail program, since they had the good fortune to inherit Paul K’s full liquor license.

The food, meanwhile, features some decidedly dressed-up and inventive variations on the new California cuisine we’ve been seeing in the last few years in S.F., with the aid of some sophisticated flavor combinations and techniques picked up from both chefs’ time working for Daniel Patterson and David Bouley. Check out the draft dinner menu here (subject to change), which features one of our favorite dishes from their Chef’s Night Off pop-ups: watermelon, squid, black olive vinaigrette, and crispy onions.
