Bicycle-Churned Ice Cream at Smorgasburg on Saturday

It might be impossible to get any more Brooklyn than artisanal ice cream churned in an old-fashioned-style wooden bucket on a fixed-gear bicycle. This spectacle and more will be available for taking in at Smorgasburg’s national ice-cream fest on Saturday. (The event is the fourth in a series of “Kitchen Island” events staged in collaboration with Brooklyn Kitchen.) The market’s bringing in pretty much anybody who’s anybody in the artisan-churned world: There’ll be basil and casis sorbets from Fort Grace Ice Cream, Steve’s Ice Cream’s strawberry-ricotta ice cream made with Salvatore Brooklyn cheese, and chocolate-babka ice cream by Chozen. Oh, and if that didn’t convince you to block out the weekend for gorging and recovery, La Newyorkina and First Prize Pies have teamed up to make pie milkshakes — might we suggest chocolate-peanut-butter-pretzel pie with Mexican vanilla?
