Bardot, the sealed-with-a-kiss ice cream bar chain from Mexican helado overlord Xavier Briseno that we wrote about last month, will open today at Arcadia’s Westfield Santa Anita, a week before originally scheduled. Bardot positions its wares as lickable status symbols for moneyed mall-goers to look down on the menial Haagen-Daz bars dripping all over everyone’s plastic-covered couches (and now they’re telling us it’s actually called a sofa).
Bardot’s bars and scoops come in 24-carat flavors like dulce de leche on mascarpone and raspberry with green tea that employ underlings like Belgian cacao and vanilla from Veracruz. Ice cream bars are priced from $5.40 to $5.80. Our grandpeople, who remember when ice cream only cost a nickle, would be shocked. Either way, the ice cream shoppe plans to spread L.A.’s way in the near future (a West Covina location is due in late summer).
