Astonishingly, the most-photographed sandwich of the last week may not have been at Publican Quality Meats (or as a friend who counts the number of foodie cameras out each time he goes there calls it, The Meat Fashion Show). It was, to judge by the number of slideshows suddenly popping up depicting it in all its porky, dripping-grease glory, the porchetta sandwich which Becker Lane Pork is using to lure people to its pork stand at Green City Market. We’re going to stick with the first story about it that we saw, and send you to The Local Beet where Kelly Hewitt advised you to check it out all the way back on Monday:
Becker Lane has the best pork I have ever tasted and now they have decided to sell Porchetta sandwiches at the market for all of our eating pleasure. I ask you is there anything better than a pork sandwich for breakfast? I think not. On a soft ciabatta roll, an onion relish is spread on the bottom half, and then they layer the most tender and juicy meat, with the marbled meat overtop of that and the skin on top of that. As a bonus they put a tangy homemade slaw on top to sort of cut that whole meat overload that you may be picturing in your mind.
Of course, you might want something to go with your pork sandwich for breakfast, like a tamale, so Serious Eats Chicago did this helpful roundup of the top things to eat at the Green City Market. See you there tomorrow for pork.
