Apparently we’ve been deaf to all the clamoring for more bottle service and hip-pop on the seaside, as The Fairmont Miramar Hotel announces its tapping of West Hollywood club-guy, Brent Bolthouse, to bring his Hills vibe to Santa Monica. The former-promoter-turned-DJ-turned-entrepreneur is opening The Bungalow in a freestanding cottage on hotel grounds in July, intended as a space for private events, corporate throw-downs, and industry meetings.
We’re normally not big on corporate board-conceived nightlife outfits offering a false sense of exclusivity, but The Bungalow is already notable for one thing: The promise of more Ray Garcia, Fig’s brilliant chef whose team will help tailor and execute the menus at this carefully contrived surf shack.
Bolthouse’s “dream of a beachfront hideaway” will also feature a design from Studio Collective meant to evoke “Baja-California.” That means a studiously eclectic look on the inside (resembling the kind of pricey beach pad they give Sean William Scott when he’s playing a barely-unemployed Venice wave-chaser in the movies), along with ocean and garden views and a fire pit on the outside, as opposed to real Baja’s layers of sand in your shorts and bad beer passed around the RV park. But perhaps Baja and Bolthouse can come together at Bungalow under the one thing they do both seem to enjoy: questionable techno! Find out next month when The Bungalow becomes reality.
