Natick Man Relishes Hot Dog Challenge

Yummy!
Yummy!

Natick’s Rob Merlino—he calls himself the Hot Dog Man—has an admirable summertime goal. While you, mere mortal, might plan to drink beer and relax by the ocean, Merlino has set himself the task of eating 31 hot dogs in 31 days in honor of Hot Dog Month, also known as July. “I put my life on hold for six weeks while I do this little stunt,” he tells BostonInno.

Helpfully, the Hot Dog Man has also snagged a few corporate sponsors like Pearl Franks, Kodak, and Onion Crunch. Maybe that’s because he plans to film his odyssey for a documentary that spotlights “the hot dog joint as it relates to American culture, at least in this region.”

He kicks off his endeavor at Fenway Sausage Works in New Bedford on July 1, at midnight. Hopefully he won’t lie down right afterward? See how he fares at his blog, Hot Dog Stories. (Maybe he’ll reward himself for a job well done with a visit to the Hot Dog Hooker?) [BostonInno]
