In the downtown section of SoMa, popular after-work spot Eddie Rickenbacker’s (133 2nd Street) has closed for a few weeks, ostensibly for “renovations.” A sign in the window noted by LiveSoMa says that they’re planning to reopen “toward the end of the month” with a new owner and management, but the place will remain Eddie Rickenbacker’s — presumably with all those ceiling-slung motorcycles intact. You’ll recall that owner Henry Africa died about a year ago, after spending many years holding court from a sofa at the front of the bar with his portly cat Higgins. There’s no word on the current whereabouts of Higgins. [href=”http://www.livesoma.com/2012/06/11/two-restaurant-closures-soma/”>LiveSoMa] Update: Actually, the vintage motorcycles are gone. They’re getting auctioned off in Pebble Beach. And the bar may not reopen until “later this summer.” [Scoop]
