For any night owls yet to get their hands on the smoked sublimity of Neil Strawder’s Bigmista’s Barbecue during his farmers market appearances, a Friday open house for members and the public at Marina del Rey Yacht Club will welcome the chef and his catering outfit to the seaside. Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club is hosting a pre-race party to celebrate Saturday’s 45th annual chase down the coast from MDR to San Diego, a maritime contest that sees up to 350 boats all gunning for it.
Whether you’re competing or not, the Windjammers are holding a land-based jam in the yacht club’s parking lot that includes a full-bar, $22 dinner from Strawder, and a performance from the Shoemaker Brothers. Reservations, which are strongly recommended, can be made via email or by calling 310-827-7692. The June 29th party opens up its bar at 4:00 P.M., dinner starts at six, and the whole shebang ends at ten at 13589 Mindanao Way, Marina Del Rey.
