Hopelessly Delayed

An Update on Bi-Rite Divisadero, Now Due in Early 2013

Bi-Rite’s long-awaited, long-delayed expansion to the Western Addition (at 550 Divisadero, the same one that was announced two full years ago) gets an update this week by way of the Bi-Rite blog. What’s been going on with it and why is it taking so long, you ask? Well “construction complexity” is part of it, but also the team has been doing a lot of community outreach, not wanting to shove a high-end Mission market down the throats of neighborhood residents who don’t want it. “Plainly put: it’s a process,” they write, and they say they are going to “continue having conversations with our new neighbors.” They’re now aiming for an opening early next year, and they should have a clearer date to announce once a few permits have cleared. Meanwhile, another Mission export to Divis, the Four Barrel off-shoot with in-house bakery called The Mill (736 Divisadero) is on track to open next month. [Bi-Rite, Earlier]
