The reclaimed-wood look has made it to San Mateo, and on Thursday the little Peninsula town will be getting a new restaurant covered in the stuff: 31st Union. The name refers to California being the 31st state to entire the union, and the concept is small-plates and California bistro fare, featuring stuff like smoked duck tacos, fish and chips, and lamb meatball sliders (full menu here). Also, they’ve got a handsome polished concrete floor, a zinc bar, and both wine and beer on tap, with twelve keg wines in total. They open June 28. [Scoop]
