Dish in Chicago magazine loves to land exclusives on the openings of new places. So what happens when Dish runs into a place that’s bucking the hype and trying to create an illusion of secrecy and, well, exclusivity? They run a piece like this week’s, in which Dish is the very first to bring you lack of information! The name of the place? Dish reveals that it doesn’t have one; it’s called Untitled. When’s it opening? “The owners hope to launch in June, but they don’t plan to announce it. ‘People will know when we are open.’” Alas, old habits die hard and some actual information does slip out, such as the address (111 W. Kinzie) and the general concept (17,000-square foot restaurant, bar and entertainment venue with speakeasy feel… traditional American food such as oysters Rockefeller, steak and pork chops… a private dining room which gets served drinks through a sliding painting behind the bar… a lounge with a 30-foot bar… a library with a selection of 265 whiskeys). Also, we wish they’d thought to just call their chef Chef X, but he has a name (Joe Heppe, formerly of Mercat a la Planxa and Vermilion). But at least Dish can say of the name and opening date, you didn’t read it here first! [Dish]
