Our home slices over at Eater LA are celebrating pizza week, so with a tip of our hat we deliver you two snippets of related news:

First comes word of yesterday’s opening of Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill in Studio City, whose original location opened in La Jolla in 1989. Sammy’s is serving up what they call “artisan thin crust” pizza, a descriptor we’re sure Lewis Black would love.

They’ll have tapas and small plates too, but the main focus is on the wood-fired pizza pies, with options like the royal Hawaiian (pineapple, rosemary ham, mozzarella, fresno chilli, mint, homemade tomato sauce); organic arugula and pear (arugula, prosciutto, gorgonzola, balsamic dressing); raclette and fingerling potato with applewood smoked bacon; and the yummy honey cheese pizza (mild Macedonia sheep’s milk cheese, oregano, and orange blossom honey). They’ve got a license for beer and wine with ambitions to be slinging cocktails come summertime.

Secondly, Lexington Social House will be launching Tuesday pizza pop-ups at their Hollywood eatery starting May 29. The guest piazzollo will be New York-native Adam Tomei. Tomei is what somewhat obsessive about a good pie, and has made regular pilgrimages to Phoenix’s celebrated Pizzeria Bianco to “research” his recipes. Pizza styles will rotate weekly and highlight all-natural and nitrate-free proteins sourced from Berkeley-based Fra’Mani Handcrafted Foods. Each pizza’s base will feature organic tomatoes and Tomei’s signature dough recipe, which uses “00” (doppio zero) flour from Naples. Personal pies will cost $14-$16 each. Visit the restaurant’s website for the full menu.
