Why’s David Katz Serving Thursday’s Fried Chicken Tonight at Mémé?

David Katz’s Thursday lunch special at Mémé practically wrote the book on fried chicken hype in this town. And since first introducing the once-a-week daytime deal more than two years ago, it’s continued to enjoy a devoted, cult-like following. So why all of the sudden is Katz serving up his Thursday lunch special tonight on a Tuesday? “Just to do it,” Katz told Grub was the reason. “We did it once before on a Tuesday night just for the hell of it, and it was a lot of fun.”

Like on Thursday afternoons, tonight’s dinner deal includes fried chicken, cornbread with honey butter, two side dishes (choices include mini yam casseroles with marshmallows, collard greens and potato salad) and a bottle of Miller High Life for $20. Seatings start at 5 p.m.

Katz himself won’t be on hand though. He’s participating in Bistrot La Minette’s sold-out duck collaboration dinner, where he’s serving Magret duck breast with black vinegar glaze, black rice puree, black trumpet mushrooms, and black garlic duck jus. “As you can see, my theme is black,” he told us.
