Mark Gold Serving up a Side of Spring at Sadie

The Le Deux re-do, a.k.a. Sadie, opened in Hollywood in January. By March, opening chef Dave Schmidt took off for greener pastures, and Eva’s Mark Gold stepped in with a consulting role. Sadie owner Rick Selby and Gold bonded over dinner at Eva, and it seems his culinary vision is what he had in mind. The menu has been tweaked and changed a bit since the switchover, now more seasonal and even slightly more serious–naming a farm here might go over this crowd’s head–for what this space has seen before, in all of its incarnations. Still, the chef is having some fun, everything is very accessible, and at least on paper, sounds more interesting than the standard salmon, jidori chicken and salads. So what might you find?

Gold has definitely put his stamp on the new spring offerings, with its lamb meatballs with whipped yogurt, Schaner Farms duck egg with spring garlic and brown butter asparagus, and fried chicken (an Eva hit). We’d even like to try his take on a Philly cheesesteak and fish and chips, which sound more pubby than the same seems, but everyone else is doing it in Hollywood, they might as well, too.
