Marbella (pronounced mar-BAY-ah) makes its debut tonight in the former Rex Café space (2323 Polk Street) with chef Nelson German at the helm. We already showed you the Spanish-focused menu, and now you can take a look at the refreshed dining room, which includes a prominent exclamation of “ESPANA!” across the main wall. There’s a shiny new red-lacquered bar, and the overall color story, as you’ll see, is pretty red and romantic.
German, who most recently worked at Supperclub and previously was in New York at Jerry’s Café, cited a tapas restaurant in NYC called Sala One Nine as part of his inspiration. What you’ll find at Marbella his idea of “progressive Spanish cuisine,” with the finest of California ingredients, and plenty of imported spice.
Also, there’s a new cocktail program, and brunch will return to this popular space this weekend — see the full brunch menu here. And late-night eaters and industry folks in the vicinity should rejoice at this news: They’ll be serving food until midnight every day, and until 1 a.m. on weekends.
