Dine In, or Dine Out: What’s a Do-Gooder to Do?

Tomorrow sees the return of Dining Out For Life, the annual, nationwide fundraiser for organizations committed to providing care, counseling and other services to those effected by HIV/AIDs. More than 200 restaurants throughout the region are participating this year, and donating 33 percent of their day’s proceeds to the cause. While it’s a great opportunity for those who enjoy dinner out to help others, it also coincides with the launch of Dine In Help Out 2012, a benefit started last year that encourages people to eat at home for one evening and donate the money they would’ve spent at a restaurant to programs that provide meals for needy and hungry children in Philadelphia. No doubt both are certainly worthy causes, but they present something of conflict. What’s a do-gooder to do?

Well, it’s nothing to get bent out of shape about. You can do both! Dining Out for Life is just one night. So go ahead and make reservations at Amada, Buddakan, Barbuzzo or any of the other participating restaurants, have yourself a good time, and feel good about doing your part. Then, since Dine In Help Out runs throughout May, schedule a night to dine in at home. It’s that easy.
