Eater has it via Twitter that a new BBQ joint will open in Union Square this summer, joining the swelling ranks of restaurants (Casa B, Journeyman) in the once sleepy neighborhood. D.C. expat Michael Schmidt will open the Bearded Pig because, according to his website, Boston needs better BBQ.
Florida-born Schmidt hopes to bring a taste of his homeland to Somerville, he writes. “The Bearded Pig is the result of the accumulation and perfection of years worth of recipes, both those handed down to him and those developed on his own, a desire to make some damn fine barbecue, and the drive to honor his Southern roots. True Southern Barbecue is his passion and a gift to his new home.”
Other gifts, per the menu: Texas corn pudding, BBQ pulled pork, St. Louis spare ribs, and deviled eggs. Thanks, Mr. Schmidt. We’ll take ‘em! Stay tuned for more.
