The owners of The Village Idiot, currently working on opening a new project in Silver Lake’s Le Barcito space, are not simply inserting a sequel. The Eastsider L.A. reports that this crew is actually interested in paying homage to The Black Cat, the historic gay bar that sparked a civil rights struggle at this same address two years before the game-changing riots at New York’s Stonewall Inn. The owners have filed for their liquor license under the name Black Cat and are looking into rights to use the name, all in an effort to honor and preserve the past of the property, which was declared a historic landmark in 2008.
