We’re hearing plans for an as-yet-named “upscale” gastropub presented last night before the Passyunk Square Civic Association’s zoning committee were mostly well received. A tipster present at the meeting tells Grub that the project, which is being compared to Village Whiskey, is being headed by the same folks who brought us the pizza and beer joint, Birra, and will take shape at the corner property at 1537 South 11th Street, where Tasker and 11th streets intersect Passyunk Ave. No doubt, this is a pretty sweet location. It’s catercorner to Chiarella’s and directly across from Stateside on the other side of the “singing fountain.”

Details are few and far between — we’re still awaiting a call back from Birra owner Gordon Dinerman to confirm — but preliminary plans include a small eight to 10 seat bar with an ample selection of craft beers on tap, and a 30-seat dining room. As usual, we’ll keep you posted on any updates.
