Only Chicago could gain more Top Chef contenders after the season is over. Mark Caro in the Tribune reports that Grayson Schmitz, who was one of the last six contestants on the most recent season of Top Chef and returned in the finale to assist Sarah Grueneberg, is planning to leave New York and settle here to open an event space where she would “host everything from cocktail parties to dinner parties to kids’ birthday parties.” Schmitz, a New Holstein, Wisconsin native, has a sister who lives here and has been helping her manage her career; on Facebook she gave a little more hint of why she’s moving here:

It’s official…I’m moving to Chicago! Found a place on a tree-lined street and it’s HUGE, which doesn’t say much because I’m used to NYC;) Getting excited to reconnect with old friends, make some new, rock out with my sister, and start touring the yummy Chicago food scene. It’s bittersweet because I LOVE NYC…will miss it and all my peeps, but hopefully Chicago will welcome me with open arms and show me some love.
