Russia House May Actually, Really Be Closed, Possibly Becoming a Pot Dispensary

So long, weird old place.

That freeway-adjacent restaurant you always wondered about but never went to, Russia House (2011 Bayshore Boulevard), looks to have finally closed, ladies and gentlemen. Grub Street finds that their phone number’s been disconnected, and this follows on our having discovered in early January that the place was up for sale, and the liquor license was already being sold. And what’s a Russian restaurant without vodka?

The place had really only been open to the public on Saturdays in recent years, and served primarily as an event space for the Russian community. At least that gaggle of Bold Italic kids was able to get a good story about it before it disappeared.

Furthermore, we just heard an intriguing rumor this week, still unconfirmed, that an application is wending its way through the city to turn the building into a medical marijuana dispensary. We have a call in to a city official in charge of such matters, but have yet to hear back.
