Mission entrepreneur Gus Murad is getting into a new line of business! Today we learn that a vacant space in the Elements hostel/Medjool building at 2520 Mission Street will become the Morado Collective, a medical marijuana dispensary serving the LGBT and Hispanic communities. The dispensary is seeking approval as a place for both “respite care” and as a marijuana pharmacy, and operator Eduardo Morales of city nonprofit AGUILAS tells the Examiner that one aspect of services may include overnight stays in a hostel room next door.

Murad’s involvement in the dispensary so far has been to provide a small loan for startup costs, and to pay the permit fee to the city.

Murad recently sold Medjool to Starbelly/Beretta owner Adriano Paganini, and it is closed, though the rooftop bar remains open until further notice. And Murad also recently revealed plans to bring Alamo Drafthouse, the Austin-based movie chain with food and beer service, into the nearby New Mission Theater space, which he also owns. In any event, those with medical marijuana cards won’t have to go far to get high before the movies, or a meal at Paganini’s new Latin-themed Medjool replacement.

In related news, we’re still waiting to confirm a recent rumor that Russia House is becoming a pot dispensary too.
