One of the giants of the modern cocktail renaissance is in Chicago tonight and tomorrow— David Wondrich, author of Imbibe! and Punch, who’s being feted at The Aviary. You’ll have a chance to see another one later this month when Dale DeGroff, author of various cocktail books and one of the bartenders who kickstarted the whole movement at New York’s Rainbow Room, comes to Chicago for a fundraiser for the Museum of the American Cocktail at The Drawing Room, entitled “On The Town! A Tribute to Bars, Speaks and Legendary Saloons.” With jazz guitarist Andy Brown behind him, DeGroff will speak on the history of the American cocktail from colonial days through Prohibition to the present. Given that this is the Drawing Room, whose bartender Charles Joly is a pretty impressive mixologist in his own right, we’re guessing you’ll be able to sip on something historically evocative during the event as well. The event is March 26; tickets are $40 right now, $45 at the door. [Chicagoist]
