Chef-restaurateur Charlie Hallowell — a Chez Panisse Café alum who’s lately been in charge of a mini-empire of wood-fired pizza restaurants in Oakland (Pizzaiolo and Boot & Shoe Service) — is in expansion mode, and thus the rumor has legs. As Diablo Dish reports, Hallowell is taking over a former nail salon across the street from Boot & Shoe at 3307 Grand Avenue for a new venture which will be centered not around pizza, but wood-grilled meat and vegetables. The unnamed restaurant will also be home to the overall charcuterie program for Hallowell’s restaurants, and will feature a cocktail program too. We should note that just in terms of the wood-grilled food and cocktail thing, Hallowell will be stepping into a space already occupied up the street by fellow Chez Panisse alum Russell Moore at Camino. But what’s a little friendly competition amongst friends? [Diablo, Earlier]
