What To Eat at Bullhead Cantina, Open Now

We’ve been waiting for Big Star’s runaway success to spawn other bars with an upscale take on tacos, and one opened earlier this month without a lot of fanfare. Bullhead Cantina is in Humboldt Park, down around Feed and Rootstock on California, and in outline it fits the profile to a T: behind the bar you’ve got an impressive range of whiskies, in the kitchen they’re making tacos on housemade corn tortillas, most easily ordered in “The Twenty Twelve Twelve Taco Sampler,” which is, wait for it… $12 on Thursdays as a special ($19 the rest of the week). There are other things to have besides tacos, but that sure looks to be where to start; the full menu is below.

Taco Bar

All of our Veggie options do not contain chix stock, lard or any animal products, guaranteed!!! All Tacos served on Handmade corn tortillas. $3 each

Grilled Steak
Aged in a homemade rub topped with pickled cabbage, grilled tomato, red onion,cheese and sour cream.

Pastor
Marinated pork served with diced grilled pineapple, pickled cabbage with cucumbers and a savory chile sauce.

Beer Grilled Chicken
Tossed in PBR beer and lime served with lettuce, tomato, sour cream and a chimichuri sauce.

Vegetable
Grilled gypsy pepper, yellow squash, zucchini, red onion, lettuce and tomato topped with sour cream and cheese.

Carnitas
Slow cooked in banana leaves and fried, served with cilantro, onion, and drunken salsa.

Bullhead Taco Special

Choose any 3 from the taco list to be served with 12 handmade tortillas, grilled veggies, lettuce, sour cream and salsa. Serves 2-3 people, $19

Slow Roasted Brisket
With a dry rub grilled poblano ,pickled cabbage, mntry jack cheese and topped with a roasted chile sauce.

Grilled Tilapia
With a tamarind and bourbon glaze, served with a reduced tomato sauce, cucumber, sour cream and lettuce.

Taco de Avocado
Charred tomato, gypsy pepper,lettuce, grilled onion, topped with cheese and a roasted chile sour cream.

Southern Fried Chicken Taco
With lettuce,tomatoes, cabbage and mntry jack cheese topped with a smoked chipotle chile sauce.

Pulled BBQ Pork
With a rich smoky chipotle bbq sauce topped with pickled cabbage, tomato, sliced cucumbers and sour cream.

Marinated Grilled Portabello
With avocado, grilled red onion, roasted corn, rustic tomato sauce and finished with sour cream.

Grilled Sweet Potato
With pickled cabbage, grilled red onion, roasted corn and finished with a creamy lime and avocado mix.

Roasted Beets
Tossed in a citrus reduction with grilled red onion,tomato, lettuce, cucumber, chile powder and shredded cheese.
