From the Chef Mark Mendez side, Vera is all about simple, big Spanish flavors. From the Liz Mendez side, though, it’s all about sherry, and why sherry is an underrated accompaniment to food, especially Spanish food. So it makes perfect sense that Vera will be offering sherry one of its best showcases in a long time at a special sherry dinner next month. Reception snacks and a five course Spanish menu will be paired with no fewer than 11 of the highest quality, artisan sherries from De Maison Selections, while De Maison chief André Tamers will be present during the dinner to introduce the choices and talk about how to pair sherry with food (as will Liz Mendez, needless to say). The menu runs the gamut from Iberico ham and cheeses to seafood salad, squab, foie gras and lamb shoulder. The dinner is Monday, March 5 starting at 6:30 p.m., and runs $85 per person (including tax and gratuity). For reservations, call 312-243-9770.
