The Tale of a Recent Hipster Field Trip to Russia House

Russia House (2011 Bayshore Boulevard), that weird wedding venue/vodka emporium/sometimes-restaurant right off highway 101 is not long for this world, and thus the hip kids over at the Bold Italic decided to pay the place a visit, for ironic journalism’s sake. “We are all out of Absolut, I give you good Russian vodka instead,” says the waitress during their one-night-a-week open-to-the-public time on Saturdays, and the assembled kids worry they’re being upsold and boondoggled. Ah, but they have a swell time, and some of the food (pickled fruit, beef tongue) is reportedly quite tasty. Also, an added bonus, during one of the many very Russian weddings/celebrations one is likely to encounter there, they observe as “a middle-age man and a heavyset woman walked onto the stage and broke into a canned, Russian version of ‘Bad Romance’ so soaked in reverb it sounded deeply psychedelic, and kind of awesome.” [Bold Italic, Earlier]
