Julius Meinl will close its small patisserie on Irving Park on Saturday— and open a newer, much larger one in March within its wholesale distribution center and bakery at 4115 N. Ravenswood a few blocks away. The focus of this new Julius Meinl Patisserie and Coffee Bar will be the expanded selection of baked goods produced under pastry chef Rochelle DuBridge, the Hot Chocolate and Vie veteran who has been overseeing the growth of Meinl’s bakery, including the paczki-like Krapfen Austrian doughnuts which have become one of the chain’s most successful items since their introduction a few months back. (Note that they’ll still be Saturday only.) In the coming months, DuBridge will also expand into wedding cakes, petits-fours and other high end treats, and introduce more old world-style breads for sandwiches. Watch for news about the opening of the new location near the Irving Park el stop at their Facebook page.
