The Herald’s former restaurant critic, who took a buyout in July, announced today that he’s back in the restaurant biz … kind of. He’s launched his own consulting company, designed to help restaurants put their best foot forward before being skewered by critics just like him.

From the release:

Mat Schaffer Consulting provides restaurant and dining establishment owners the opportunity to get reviewed before they get reviewed. Whether a restaurant is opening for the first time or changing the menu and trying to rebrand to increase business, Schaffer’s truthful, impartial, and always uncompromised opinions and recommendations give restaurant owners the tools to help them prosper in Boston’s highly competitive dining scene.

Mat Schaffer Consulting offers a complete spectrum of restaurant critique and analysis including menu concept, quality and presentation of food, service, wait staff & personnel, beverage program, website, ambiance and decor and price point.

So basically he’s a kinder, gentler version of Kitchen Nightmares. Who should he help first?
