Hot Doug on Competition, Monkey Dogs and the Vienna Beef Tour

It seems like we haven’t heard much about “Hot Doug” Sohn lately, at least compared to his heyday as the sausage king/media fave a couple of years back. (The last thing we remember seeing, we helped create.) Which is not to say, in the slightest, that his small stand selling out-there sausage combinations isn’t still good and drawing crazy lines, especially on Saturday— or that Doug isn’t still a seriously funny guy. He stopped by Mark Bazer’s The Interview Show at The Hideout recently and chatted about everything from checking out the competition (“I don’t get a chance to go out for lunch and if I do, I’m really not going out for a hot dog”), if he’d serve a monkey-based sausage (“Thaaaaat’s a tough sell”), and whether or not you want to take the Vienna Beef plant tour and see the sausage being made (“Yeah, you do. You want to see the extruder with sausages flying out of it”), among other things. It’s about 11 minutes, watch it below.
