Last we’d checked in on Downtown’s Urbano, Ilan Hall was moonlighting from The Gorbals over its wood-burning oven. Today we learn that Bruce Kalman, the launch chef at The Misfit, has taken the restaurant’s executive chef position. Like his M.O. in SaMo, Kalman is touting a locavore touch and introducing dishes like pulled-to-order fresh mozzarella, braised greens with house-smoked bacon and beans unstuck from Lodi, and a spread of charcuterie.
He’s also bringing gluten-free pizza and vegan cheese to the bar for anyone seeking a more sensitive approach. To showcase his new offerings, the restaurant announces a “Pizza Happy Hour” from 3:00-7:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, when all pizzas are half-off and all drafts hover at the four-dollar mark.
