The menu at Blowfish Sushi (2170 Bryant) just got a substantial rewrite courtesy of longtime chef-owner Ritsuo Tsuchida, and the interior’s been updated as well. NBC’s Tamara Palmer dropped in on the “intentionally upbeat and playful,” sixteen-year-old restaurant and finds that for the next few weeks they’re serving their namesake, the deadly fugu — something they don’t usually do and which only specially certified sushi chefs are even allowed to prepare (one wrong cut and, well, you could die). It’s $280 for a five-course meal for two, but it’s not on the regular menu and requires an advance order. Also of note: They’re now doing something called a Beauty Roll with squid-ink-colored rice and scallop tempura. [Grub Street, NBC Bay Area]
