Remember the battle of the (sweeter, maltier, smaller) Montreal bagels in Brooklyn Heights last year? Well, it seems that in the intervening months, would-be Mile End rival B&B; Empire Bagel Cafe has shuttered its location on Atlantic Avenue and is now preparing to reopen.* B&B; wants you to know that its Montreal-style bagels are cooked in its wood-burning oven on the premises, thankyouverymuch, not trucked in from Canada. Also on the menu: sandwich melts on said bagels, soups with bagel chips, and salads. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily; look for it to open this weekend.
