Weeks after the opening of Caffe Storico, and building on Buddakan and Morimoto, restaurateur extraordinaire Stephen Starr tells Crain’s New York that he wants to have five restaurants open in NYC by the end of this year. “I’m taking risks when I should stop taking risks,” he says, “but I always want to do something new.”

Word broke last April that Starr was seeking a liquor license for a space in the Puck Building, and last month Gael Greene blogged the rumor that Starr was looking to open a second location of his pan-Asian restaurant Buddakan, to be called “Hotel Buddakan,” atop Chelsea Hotel. Without confirming work on either restaurant, Starr tells Crain’s that he’s “looked at the Puck Building” and is currently “in negotiations for a fifth space.”
