Remember that story from about a year ago involving the “exploding” escargot and those two guys who were suing the Seafood Peddler in San Rafael over the injuries they allegedly received from scalding hot garlic butter? Well, the restaurant may have prevailed in that case, but now they’re being sued by the Department of Labor for hundreds of thousands of dollars in back pay and unpaid overtime. A total of eleven employees are owed about $138,000 in wages, and another eight employees — who were fired for cooperating with the Department of Labor’s investigation — are owed another $26,000.
As the Scoop reports, investigators are looking for former employees to come forward with claims as well.
The restaurant is set to close at the end of the month and will be taken over by former Grateful Dead band member Phil Lesh, who’s turning it into a new restaurant and music venue called Terrapin Crossroads and the Grate Room.
