West L.A.’s Plan Check, not to be confused with West L.A.’s Plan B, is finishing up construction on Sawtelle’s Little Osaka strip. Built as a bar and restaurant, seemingly with just as much focus on the bar part as new and nearby Freddy Smalls, Plan Check comes from Terry Heller, who counts former Umami Burger corporate chef Ernesto Uchimura as his main man on the menus and Descarga, Black Market, and Harvard & Stone superstars, Steve Livigni and Pablo Moix, as its cocktail consultants. A worker on the project’s construction* tells us an opening in three weeks is likely (seemingly confirmed by a Facebook countdown), while the space still has a little ways to go. What can you expect here?

Serving small plates motivated by U.S. comfort classics, current examples provided on Facebook include a turkey hickory burger, swirled donuts, a mushroom steak, thick rounds of fries, and a developing meat and spuds dish, while cocktails will concentrate on under-appreciated rye whiskey, and beers will meet the town’s current high standard, all with a $10 to $30 price point.

So far the website boasts a smart aesthetic, raising our hopes for something original in this land of shabu shabu and sushi when the Raveled Studio-designed space makes it debut. Check out a couple of shots of the under construction space, down below, and look for an opening towards the beginning of next the month.

* A correction has been made to this post, as we were under the initial impression that we had been informed of the opening timeline by the restaurant’s owner. Owner Terry Heller tells us an opening is more likely in three weeks from the publication of this post.
